Following graduation, Clarkson made the move towards Los Angeles, where she failed to make it into show business. When she returned to Texas her name was announced as an contestant in the inaugural season of American Idol, a show broadcast by the Fox Broadcasting Company. American Idol, a singing show that allowed the audience to decide which singer they liked best. Fans were amazed by Clarkson's captivating voice, charisma, and sense of humour. Clarkson's prize in the prize draw was $1 million, as well as the recording contract was signed with RCA.
