Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer, was the first Roberts to move to Atlanta. Her father was the first interest to theatre. When he was studying in Emory University in 1952 he was a part of productions at Emory University and in Atlanta. In 1953, when he joined the Air force, he appeared with Betty Lou Bredemus in Biloxi. In 1955, the couple married and their son Eric Anthony was born. Walter went to Tulane University at New Orleans In 1957, the city of Louisiana where the couple had left the Air Force of the United States. In 1960, the family relocated to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working at Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's TV show known as Bum Bum and His Buddies which they funded by themselves. The Actors and Writers Workshop was created in the year 1964 and ran for 6 years. Lelisa Billingsley, also known as Lisa, was born in 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
