Julia Fiona Roberts born to Betty Lou Bredemus (mother) and Walter Grady Roberts on October 28 the 28th of October, 1967. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer who was also the first Roberts to settle in Atlanta. She inherited her father's interest in theater from a young age. While a student of Emory University in 1952 he performed in shows on campus as well as in other parts of Atlanta. He joined the Air Force in 1953. During his time being stationed at Biloxi Mississippi was cast in an army production that featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the Air force. In 1955, the couple married and in 1956 their child Eric Anthony was born. Walter was an undergraduate at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In 1957 they were discharged from the air force and Walter began his studies at Tulane. In 1960, the family relocated to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working with Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter as well as Betty Lou began producing a children's TV show in Decatur, Georgia called Bum Bum and His Buddies. The production was funded by the couple by themselves. The following year, they started the Actors and Writers Workshop which was in operation for a period of six years. In the meantime, they also had two children Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in the year 1965, and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
