Her age was just teen when she first entered the world of music, having won local contests at the age of 10 of age and recording her debut album at 14 years old. In 1987, she released her first solo album, after signing with Rounder Records. She was then invited to join Alison Krauss Union Station, her current band that she sings with. Her first album as a collective with this band came out in the year 1989.
